Monterey by Yum Yum Foods

Oh, my days. This week we went to Monterey, a fabulously lush little Mexican in Dalston. So much more alive since Shoreditch went all corporate claptrap.

We kicked off with a cocktail, cos that’s the type of gals we are. A luscious French syrup is added to Jose Cuervo tequila, to make a tequila slushie. Total cactus vibe, this might be Cocktail of the Year territory. In fact, we should rename this day of the week, as Tequila Tuesday.

We sat up at the bar so that we could admire the bar tender. He was rather lush himself. He rewarded us with freshly fried corn chips, a salsa that was lit with some heat. Perfect nibbles to get us started.

Then it was on to a master class in Tacos. We are currently on a wellness crusade, so this is our flexitarian era, and it was veggies all the way. We shared three different types of taco. First up was charred cauliflower, who knew what you can do with a boring old cauli. Then courgette with zesty fresh guacamole and a pomegranate salsa. And to finish, OMG, it was grilled corn and avocado tacos. All topped with a salty crumbled cheese.

Even though we are full to the brim, we manage to devour some lush vegan brownies.

We have yet to travel to Mexico, but holy guacamole, it’s on the bucket list now.

 Much Love,

 Poppy & Daisy
