Kitchen Confidential - Anthony Bourdain

My two passions in life, beyond my family, are food and travel. I also spent over 30 years in hospitality, so I am drawn to stories and tales from kitchens and restaurants. One of my most favourite people in the world was Anthony Bourdain who sadly committed suicide in 2018.

His first book exploded on the scene. It is a mixture of food, sex, drugs, and rock n roll. It dives head first in to what happens behind the scenes. It is a banquet of a book, you can go back to its table several times and find something new.

It was the book that launched a new career as he travelled the world being the unequivocal food and travel presenter, and an oracle of social commentary. At his happiest when eating at a beach with sand between his toes and a cold beer in his hand.

Clearly, he had his own demons in the end, and I miss him hugely. I went to Les Halles, and sat at the bar, closed my eyes and toasted him

‘Eat well, travel often’

‘Your body is not a temple, it is an amusement ride

‘An egg in anything, makes it better’

RIP Tony
